Skin skis have had a breakthrough in recent years and are the best-selling ski type in today’s market. The ski manufacturers now have many different models to choose from.

It may seem like a lot of choices, but we will now guide you in choosing your next skin skis and answering some questions. Which ski fits which type of skiers? Are more expensive skis always better?

We have tested skin skis from six different manufacturers: Atomic, Fischer, Madshus, Peltonen, Rossignol and Salomon. We have tested two models from each brand, the top model and one model one or two steps down. Several of the brands have many more models to choose from.

We can say that today, all manufacturers make skin skis of good quality. The different brands of course have their characteristics and are experienced a little differently in the track, according to personal preferences. The goal for this test was not to name the best skin ski, which is very difficult to determine, in light of each individual’s preferences, but to help you find the skin skis that suit you best.

The test was carried out during the autumn in the Torsby ski tunnel, Sweden. In the test, we pointed out how we experienced the skis and described how they felt and what type of skier the ski is suitable for.

Skin skis are suitable for all types of skiers. It makes it easy and quick to get out on the trail for both beginners, recreational and elite skiers. In general, it can be said that the technically good skier is best suited for the most expensive skis, while the recreational and beginners do not have to go up on the most expensive models. The most expensive skis can give top glide, but at the same time require a good technique to get a good grip.

As we mentioned above, several manufacturers have many different models of skin skis. We have not tested them all, but rather made a selection. This does not mean that the skis that are not on the list are not good. There are also brands that we do not include in the test that make good skin skis.

We strongly recommend buying skin skis from a specialist shop. It is very important to have a ski that is fitted to your weight and your experience as a skier. A big advantage of skin skiing is also to have a binding that can be adjusted without having to take off the ski. Here, too, specialty stores can help you make the right choice.

On each pair of skis, there is a manufacturer’s price tag. In practice, there are often different package prices or offers, and prices can vary greatly from store to store.

Here you can find the SKIN SKIS TEST.
