Madshus Launches All-New Redline Skate Ski Boot
Madshus has rebuilt the Redline Skate ski boot from the bottom up for the 2021-22 season.
The new Madshus boot Redline Skate ski boot features several changes to the construction, delivering a better-fitting boot with improved precision and power transfer to each pushoff. That again translates to more speed down the track.
ProXCskiing caught up with Martin Berge in the product development department at Madshus about the new flagship skate ski boot.
Let’s dive into the nuts and bolts of the new Madshus Redline Skate ski boot, which hit the retailers this fall.
New last technology = improved efficiency
On the inside, the Redline Skate boot has been completely reengineered. Where the predecessor was built on a traditional ski boot “board last,” the new boot is based on a “slip last.”
“Slip-last is the same type of last technology that is used for running shoes. We have used this type of last in out classic ski boots for years, but this is the first time we use it in a skate ski boot. Slip-last delivers a more comfortable and flexible fit, without sacrificing the torsional rigidity required to maximize the power in each pushoff,” Berge explains.
New liner construction
Additionally, the new Madshus Redline Skate boot features a brand new RaceWrap low-cut liner construction, which provides a more contoured, comfortable fit.
Previously, the inner boot went all the way up above the ankle, but with the additional carbon construction in the boot shell, the tall inner boot is no longer necessary in order to improve stability.
“The new low-cut liner improves the overall range of movement, particularly in the ankle joint,” Berge says.
New materials throughout the boot
The upper of the new Madshus Redline Skate ski boot is made from a new material called Mono mesh, which is extremely breathable and durable, and is not affected by temperature.
“The new Mono mesh fabric is not affected by the heat generated by the foot and from movement, nor by the cold from the air temperature. When the materials in the boot don’t stretch, you avoid the feeling of your laces loosening when you’ve skied a while,” Berge says.
The new upper compliments Madshus’ proprietary RaceWrap inner boot construction. The RaceWrap concept is based on a sock-like inner boot construction that uses different materials in different part of the boot. The result is a liner with great heel support, while featuring a comfortable, flexible fit in the mid- and forefoot, and distributes the pressure points evenly throughout the foot.
“The whole RaceWrap construction is anchored to the integrated carbon base, which provides solid support for the entire foot, delivering a snugger, more comfortable fit while improving precision, ski control and snow feel,” Berge explains.
New outsole and removable ankle cuff
On the outside, the redesigned Redline Skate ski boot also comes with several new features. Most importantly, the boot has an entirely new outsole: Madshus own Racing Sole, as well as a new, removable and interchangeable carbon ankle cuff.
“The removable ankle cuff allows racers to further adjust the boot to their individual preferences and needs. Replacing the cuff is also a breeze, should it be necessary. Combined with the entirely new inner boot construction and materials, we have engineered a skate ski boot that fits a wider range of feet without compromising weight, stability og torsional rigidity,” Berge concludes.
