56th Edition Of Jizerská50 This Weekend

by Leandro Lutz • 08.02.2023
Ski Classics continue with Jizerská50 on Sunday, February 12, 2023. The 50-kilometer classic race marks the eighth Ski Classics stage, Season XIV’s second Grand Classics event, and its 56th edition.

Jizerská50 is one of the biggest long-distance skiing races in Central Europe. The 50-kilometer long-distance race will be held on Sunday, February 12, in Bedřichov, Czech Republic. Its unique feel reminds many skiers of the sceneries of Scandinavian races combined with a European touch, bringing the best of both worlds.

The event was established in the late 1960s when mountain climbers decided to organize a race in the area. The first race in 1968 had only 52 participants. Still, it grew into a welcoming festival for both local and international participants, who get to experience an unforgettable adventure in the wilderness of the Jizera Mountains.

The start and finish are in Bedrichov, a mountain village with a unique atmosphere enhanced by local delicatessen and beer. Besides the global audience brought by Ski Classics, the race is followed by millions of Czech viewers, making it one of the most popular sports events in the country.

In the pre-event interviews ahead of Jizerská50, broadcast on SC YouTube earlier today, Anton Karlsson, Ski Classics Sports Director, has some impressions about the first part of the Ski Classics Pro Tour Season XIV:

“We are approaching the halfway mark, already had the first Grand Classics event, and everything is working as it should. Overall, we were very lucky with the weather and had many exciting battles. We look forward to the rest of the season, starting with Jizerská this weekend.”

In the 2023 edition, thousands of skiers are registered for the Jizerská events.

“There is a record number of participants on this event week, over 9000 participants, which is very fun and nice to hear that after the pandemic, the events are growing again and people are returning to the events. It’s very important for the sports overall,” says Karlsson and continues about the snow and course conditions:

“The snow conditions are perfect at the moment, with good weather now in the week, cold conditions, and dry snow. We might expect a little bit of rain or snow this weekend, but we are waiting to see what the prognosis says. But overall, the organizers have done a super job, and the course is ready for racing,” concludes the Ski Classics Sports Director.
