Ski Classics Season XV continues with Vasaloppet for this year’s renowned 90-kilometer classic race, which holds a special significance – celebrating the event’s 100th edition.

On Sunday, March 3, 2024, the Pro Tour continues with Vasaloppet. Covering a challenging 90-kilometer course, the event marks the eleventh Ski Classics stage and another Grand Classics event, Season XV.

Dating back to its inception, the 90-kilometer race held on the first Sunday of March has earned its place as the oldest and most prestigious event within the Ski Classics circuit. For Pro Team athletes, securing victory in this grueling long-distance mass start race is the ultimate dream. 

In 2024, the iconic Vasaloppet celebrates its 100th edition in a true Folkfest. It is the most prestigious of all events, according to most skiers.

Importance and Traditions

Beyond its athletic prowess, Vasaloppet has transcended its status as a mere ski race to become a global sporting phenomenon. With its rich history and cherished traditions, the brand has evolved into an institution encompassing various events and activities throughout the annual summer and winter weeks.

Since its establishment in 1922, over 1.7 million participants have triumphantly crossed the iconic finish line portal of Vasaloppet. This race’s roots trace even further to the year 1520 when the saga of Gustav Eriksson Vasa unfolded. His rebellion against Denmark culminated in his ascent to becoming the first King of free Sweden – a tale that the event celebrates.

Starting in Berga by, nestled in the picturesque surroundings of Sälen and renowned for its acclaimed alpine ski resorts, Vasaloppet’s course winds its way to the world-famous town of Mora, the celebrated finish location.

GRAND CLASSICS

The Grand Classics are the four largest and most prestigious events in Ski Classics: Marcialonga, Jizerská50, Vasaloppet, and Birkebeinerrennet. The skier that wins all four events in the same season completes a Grand Slam. 

During Season XI, the Grand Classics events and the Grand Slam were introduced in Ski Classics. The concept was an immediate success and a great motivation among the best Pro Team athletes of Ski Classics. Nobody has completed a Grand Slam in the history of long-distance skiing.

If you win all four Grand Classics, Marcialonga, Jizerská50, Vasaloppet, and Birkebeinerrennet, in the same season, you complete a Grand Slam.

The SC Fantasy League for Season XV is in action. Join the excitement of Ski Classics managing your own Fantasy Team. Win prizes throughout the season and chase the Fantasy champion title of Season XV.
