Our technique videos for skating on roller skis are finally here. The technique videos give you an instructional review of four techniques in skating: V1, V2, V2 Alternate, and Free Skating. The instructors in the videos are former elite skiers Elin Mohlin and Anton Karlsson.

The videos can be found on our streaming service SC PLAY under the category SC Training. You have access to SC PLAY as a ProXCskiing.com member. Not already a member?

Below you will find links to the four technique videos:

V1 is primarily used on uphill terrain. But also if you want to increase your speed, for instance, in a sprint. The skis form a V-shape, and a pole plant is made for every other push with the legs.

V2 is used on flat and uphill terrain. The skis should make a V-shape, and you do one pole plant on each leg push-off.

V2 alternate is used at high speeds or on easier terrain. You use your poles on each side, and at the same time, you do a push-off with your leg. The next push-off is without the poles. You use your poles every other time.

Marathon Skate or Free Skating is the last of the skate-techniques, and you use it at high speed or when going downhill. It is important to stay low to the ground to minimize air resistance and increase speed.

What else to think about?
Many are maybe eager to start skating on roller skis. As mentioned in an earlier article on Proxcskiing.com, it is nothing to worry about.

“Many people find it easier to start with skate skiing than classic skiing. This is because the skating wheels are narrower, making them easier to turn with,” says the ski coach at Proxcskiing.com.
