Kati Roivas Aims For New Top Ten in the Visma Ski Classics
Not satisfied with her early races, Kati Roivas has improved as the long-distance skiing season progressed as early-season competitions were disrupted by heavy training load and sinusitis in December.
Last year, Roivas, who had severe frostbite from La Diagonela, has trained normally since last June, except for a few illnesses.
“I am pleased with the last three races. Now I am starting to have a very good base for long races, and I can better respond to a hard starting pace. However, I am not good enough yet,” Roivas says to Maastohiihto.com.
Enthusiasm in long-distance skiing came from the United States, where Roivas skied and studied for four years. After returning to Finland, she continued with traditional cross-country skiing, but during the 2019/2020 season, she managed to start a few long-distance races for her French Pro Tour Team Nordic Expérience – Coste & Crédit Agricole Franche-Comté.
For the rest of the season, Roivas hopes to ski to the top ten again. Next weekend, she will skip Jizerská50, as she will compete at La Transju’Classic 50, in France.
Next up in the Visma Ski Classics is Jizerská50. The 50-kilometer classic race takes place in the Czech Republic on February 13, 2022.
