Last year’s Klarälvsloppet winner Ida Dahl, Team Engcon, is one of the strongest favorites in the women’s race. Ahead of the event, Dahl told SVT that she has had a tough few years.

“There were periods when I was close to crying and felt like I was breaking down. That I can’t stand anything,” said Ida Dahl, and added:

“I didn’t sleep at all, was easily irritated, and all these usual symptoms. You live, although you don’t live. You are not as happy, and you are easily irritated.”

Last season, Ida Dahl competed in the World Cup and the Pro Tour, winning the Ski Classics championship overall. Alongside her professional skiing career, she has been studying engineering full-time.

Eventually, the load became too much, and she was close to collapsing.

“I was close to hitting the wall, but I didn’t,” said Dahl and commented about how she was able to perform:

“I have thought about that myself. I was shocked that it went so well. Physically, I was not so stressed; most of it was mental.”

Now, Dahl has reduced the pace of her studies and is feeling better.

Klarälvsloppet – A Ski Classics Challengers Event

Klarälvsloppet is a 90km long-distance roller ski event in Karlstad. The event is Sweden’s longest roller ski race, and the course cuts right through the Värmland countryside following the river Klarälven, a 90km paved nature experience.

The race in classic technique welcomes both elite and recreational participation. The 2023 edition is the sixth one taking place, which attracts many of the top athletes in the long-distance skiing world.

There are also 60km and 21km roller ski distances and running and cycling events on the same weekend. The 90km event is seeding for Vasaloppet and is part of the Ski Classics Challengers series.
