Myhlback Resigns From The Junior World Championships – Focus On Ski Classics

The 16-year-old Alvar Myhlback, Lager 157 Ski Team, renounces from the Junior World and devoted to Ski Classics: “It was a difficult decision to make, but now that I have decided, it feels absolutely right,” says Myhlback from Antholz.

This weekend, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the Swedish battle for places at the Junior World Championships will be decided in Lycksele, Sweden. The team for the Championships in Whistler, Canada, will be selected on Tuesday.

But 16-year-old Alvar Myhlback, who impressed at the start of the season, will not be there. He will instead focus on Ski Classics.

“I’ve thought, and it was a difficult decision to make, but now that it’s been made, it feels absolutely right,” says Myhlback, who is in northern Italy and preparing for next weekend’s competitions in the Ski Classics Season XIV.

“I asked a few people around me, and everyone said to do what I thought was the most fun, so I listened. So, the focus will be on the Ski Classics, then there will probably be some traditional races as well,” says Myhlback.

Alvar (who turns 17 this year) was on the podium in the seniors’ sprint in Bruksvallarna and settled into good positions in the distance races as well. In addition, he has made several strong races in the Ski Classics this season. Above all, the Bad Gastein Pro Team Tempo, where the Lager 157 Ski Team skier paired with Nils Dahlsten and clocked the fastest time over the 15 kilometers.

Next weekend Ski Classics restarts with two competitions in northern Italy. Pustertaler Ski Marathon and Prato Piazza Mountain Challenge.

“I got Covid when I came home from Venosta, and it took a week to recover. But now I think it feels good in training again, so I’m looking forward to next weekend’s competitions,” concludes Alvar Myhlback.
