For most of the Pro Team athletes, Klarälvsloppet last Sunday was the last roller ski race of the pre-season and a taste of who can be expected to perform this winter. But there are still a few roller ski races left on the schedule, and the Ski Classics Pro Team athlete Andreas Nygaard is not letting good opportunities aside. 

The Norwegian athlete is ready for the Ski Classics Challengers event Energamo Lipnolopet on Saturday in the Czech Republic. 

After an 18th place at Klarälvsloppet, there is reason to believe that a fully committed Nygaard will be at the start line. Ahead of Klarälvsloppet, the long-distance skier said he would be disappointed if he wasn’t in contention for victory in the 90km roller ski race from Uddeholm to Karlstad, Sweden.

But the 32-year-old from Team Ragde Charge can expect a fierce battle from local Pro Team athletes and international stars such as the German Thomas Bing, eD system Silvini Team, who was on the podium at the Bad Gastein Criterium last winter, and who has also performed strongly in this fall’s roller ski races.

Nygaard: “The course gives me no advantages.”

Even though Nygaard is one of the favorites, he is not taking the victory for granted and points out that the course does not give him any advantages. 

“I don’t know much about the race, but I see the course has a long uphill at the end. It’s not an advantage for me, as I’m big and heavy. But it’s useful and good for me to do some races with many hills. When you race, you get more exercise than in training, muscularly and for your heart and lungs,” says Nygaard.

In addition to the extra competitive training and physical benefits, Nygaard looks forward to the trip before and after the race.  

“Having been involved for so long, trying something new and seeing new places is fun. This will be something completely new, and it was a great opportunity to combine it with an autumn trip to Prague with my partner, so it was easy to say yes when I got the offer,” says Nygaard to Langrenn.com.
