Rain and high temperatures – relevant course changes for Vasaloppet
“Half” of the Vasaloppet Winter Week is now completed. Tuesday’s Vasaloppet 45 was several degrees below zero and hard tracks. But since then, warmer weather has set in. During the day, there have been plus temperatures, and the forecasts now indicate that it will be plus degrees and rain in the days leading up to Sunday’s Vasaloppet.
Vasaloppet’s organizing committee has now prepared a few “plan B” solutions for the course.
The first is already on the starting line in Berga by:
“There is a small lake just before the road crossing. Right now, there are no problems to ski there, but if there should be problems, we will make a narrower corridor of about 30 meters to the left of the lake where the skiers can pass,” says Vasaloppet Sports Director Tommy Höglund at today’s Ski Classics Live Sessions.

The second track change that may be relevant is on the Evertsberg lakes after about half the distance (about 45 kilometers from Mora, a kilometer before Evertsberg):
“There, the track goes over the ice. The ice is 50 centimeters thick, so there is no problem, but there could be water on it. Therefore, we have prepared today so that it is possible to ski close to the highway, so if necessary, we will lay the track there. But whether this is the case will be decided closer to the race,” says Höglund.
