RECORD NUMBER OF FEMALE ATHLETES
When Visma Ski Classics season XI is summed up, we can conclude that the proportion of women in the Pro Tour increases. Now 33% of the Pro Team Athletes are women – more than ever before and we have a new record number of 103 female athletes within the 35 Pro Teams.
When the Pro Tour started in 2011, the number of women was only 15%. The proportion of women has since increased year by year, and when we sum up season XI, we have more than 30% women for the first time. In actual numbers, there were 103 female athletes in the Pro Teams during Season XI.
“Every season, we have worked to attract more female athletes to Visma Ski Classics. It’s satisfying to see that we now have reached more than 30% female Pro Team athletes. We are going in the right direction, but we still have a bit left to 50%, which is the natural goal,” says David Nilsson, CEO Visma Ski Classics.
The total number of Pro Team athletes is also increasing in the Pro Tour. In season XI, the 35 Pro Teams included 312 athletes, 103 women, and 209 men, a new record by 33 athletes compared to Season X.
Each Pro Team can have a maximum of ten registered skiers, which means that 89% of the available Pro Team athlete slots were occupied this season. Will we see further development in the same direction? September 15, when the Pro Teams has to register at least four skiers, two men and two women, we will get the first indications.
