Record Number of Visma Ski Classics Registered Athletes
At the beginning of the season in Orsa Grönklitt, Sweden, 276 Pro Team athletes were registered in 35 Pro Teams. Among them 91 female skiers and 185 male skiers.
Now, on the week before Birkebeinerrennet, the eleventh stage of Visma Ski Classics Pro Tour and fourth Grand Classics event Season XII, a new record number of registered athletes was set.
In total, there are 314 Pro Team skiers registered, 109 women and 205 men.
According to Rules & Regulations Season XII, the number of registered Ski Classics Pro Teams is limited to 35. Each team must consist of a minimum of four and a maximum of ten athletes, including two athletes of each gender.
In this sense, 314 registered Pro Tour skiers mean that 89,71% of the maximum 350 spots are occupied.
Female Power
When the Pro Tour started in 2011, the number of women was less than 15%. The proportion of female skiers has since increased year by year, and for Season XII, there are 109 Pro Team female athletes and counting, in other words, 34,71% of the total number of professional skiers.
That is the record number in Visma Ski Classics’ history, proving that women are increasingly interested in long-distance skiing.
