The Finnish Ski Classics Pro Team, Team Edux, is currently in Åland for its second camp of the summer season and has announced a new addition to its ranks: the 22-year-old Swedish skier Maja Årebäck.

Team Edux relies on Swedish coaching know-how and the talent of promising young athletes in long-distance skiing. After finishing 19th in the sprint at the Swedish Championships last winter, the young promise has now joined the Finnish Pro Team and is ready for long-distance skiing despite her young age.

“I have been skiing all my life, and sprinting is my strongest sport. I skied a few long-distance races last winter, and it really inspired me. I’m looking forward to training with the team and trying long-distance races for real next winter,” says Årebäck on Team Edux’s Instagram.

Team Edux Pro Team Director and athlete Olli Tyrväinen is pleased that the team is getting reinforcements from Sweden.

“Maja is a 22-year-old young skier from Umeå. So far, Maja has been competing in sprint and traditional distances but has now decided to focus on the Ski Classics series, which we appreciate as a team. Even without special training, Maja showed good results in the marathon races in Sweden last winter. At Team Edux, we see a lot of potential in her. Based on good sprint results, the speed is there, and thanks to the long-distance coaching expertise from our neighboring country, we are confident that Maja will be able to transfer her capacity to the long races already next winter,” Olli tells Maastohiihto.com.

Olli Tyrväinen was interviewed by Maastohiihto.com earlier this spring, and he firmly believed that his team is ready to step up their game this winter.

“The athletes have their own personal goals, and each one will focus on them according to their starting points. The number of camps will continue to increase. Last season, we had five camps, and now, there will be at least seven. We are investing a lot in training camps. We might have a final camp at a high altitude abroad before the start of the season, but mainly, we will be at home. The conditions here are right, so it doesn’t depend on that.”
