The Finnish Ski Classics Pro Team, Team Edux, has been diligently training domestically throughout this summer. First, the team had a camp in June in Jyväskylä, then at the beginning of July in Åland, and now, as summer is ending, the team headed to Vuokatti.

The camp went well again, with members from other teams also joining. In Sweden, Ski Classics Pro Teams have initiated various collaborative projects, and collaboration between teams in Finland is also working well.

Team Edux has been actively training this summer, and another training session concluded last week. Team Edux wrapped up its third summer training camp last week, this time in Vuokatti. The team was joined by skiers from Ski-Willy Marathon Team Austria and Team Mäenpää.

“The main focus of the camp was still on endurance training, but now we included a couple of faster-paced sessions. There are still seven months until Vasaloppet, so we focused on the basics,” says Team Edux’s Pro Team Director Olli Tyrväinen in an interview with Maastohiihto.com.

Team Edux’s camp program was once again rigorous and challenging:

  • Sunday: Double poling, endurance training for 3 hours
  • Monday: In the morning, 3 hours of double poling, including 4 x 10-minute speed intervals of 40/20 (40 seconds of exertion and 20 seconds of recovery). In the afternoon, running training + strength training
  • Tuesday: Double poling, endurance training for 5.5 hours
  • Wednesday: In the morning, running endurance training for 3 hours. In the afternoon, classic roller skiing for 2 hours
  • Thursday: In the morning, double poling, speed-endurance training: 8 x 8-9 minutes up Vuokatinvaara. In the afternoon, running training + strength training
  • Friday: Double poling, endurance training for 5.5 hours
  • Saturday: Double poling for 4 hours: “Käkypass” training, with 10 km at full speed + 50 minutes of speed endurance

“The training sessions again included a good mix of long-distance skiers and athletes focusing on regular distances. A larger group increases the quality of the high-intensity workouts, as someone is always pushing hard,” Olli notes about the Vuokatti camp’s results.

Next, Team Edux heads to Imatra, Finland, for the Ski Classics Challengers event, the Lake Saimaa Roller Ski Marathon, this weekend.
