Team Engcon for Season XVI

Team Engcon
Today, Team Engcon started the first training camp for the new season. The squad is basically the same as last year but spiced up with two solid signings.

“They are two nice people who will contribute a lot in training and competition,” says new Team Engcon Pro Team Director Jørgen Ulvang to Langd.se.

Several Ski Classics Pro Teams have recently presented their Season XVI’s lineup. Today, Team Engcon started the first training camp of the season at the home base in Östersund, Sweden. Threshold intervals were the first item on the agenda.

Notably, it is the ‘same team’ as last season. The only skier from the previous season who is not in the squad this winter is Tove Ericsson, who already, before last season, planned to return to traditional cross-country skiing for the upcoming winter season.

This means that the remaining women’s skiers on the team are Ida Dahl (who won the Yellow Champion bib in Season XIV) and Hanna Lodin, who made her big breakthrough last winter.

New to the Pro Team is the Norwegian Anniken Gjerde Alnæs, who has competed for Team Ragde Charge in recent seasons. Alnæs won the Green Sprint bib in Season XIV, and last season, she finished seven times among the top six in Ski Classics Pro Tour events. Her best results were second place in both races in Orsa Grönklitt.

On the men’s side, it is an identical quintet with Eddie Edström, Johan Tjelle, Ole Jørgen Bruvoll, Anton Elvseth, and the Sprint bib winner Amund Hoel.

These Pro Team athletes are now complemented by this winter’s winner of the two longest Pro Tour events: Janteloppet and the 100th edition of Vasaloppet, Torleif Syrstad (who raced for Lager 157 Ski Team last season).

“This looks very good. We are happy with the group we had last season and want to build on it. Now we have two very competent skiers with a lot of experience who can contribute both now during the summer and, of course, also during the winter. Anniken and Torleif have had some untraditional paths to the top. We are excited to develop them and the whole team together towards the coming season,” says Pro Team Director Jørgen Ulvang.
