Team Robinson Trentino – Pro Team Presentation Season XIV

Team Robinson
This Pro Team is led by a former long-distance skier Bruno Debertolis, and it has been the number-one Italian team for years. However, there may be better ways to describe this team than Italian, as there are two skiers from the United States, two from Norway, one from the Czech Republic, and two from the homeland.

The US-based recruits are Tyler Kornfield and Rosie Brennan. The latter is a renowned cross-country skier in the US National Team and has represented her nation in many World Cup, World Championship, and Olympic races. Among her remarkable achievements, her Olympic glory this past winter is worth mentioning as she finished 4th in the sprint competition and 6th in the 30 km mass start classic race. In addition to her World Cup and Olympic racing, she participated in Birkebeinerrennet and finished 7th.

The other US athlete, Tyler Kornfield, raced actively on his home turf and in Canada, participating in the US Super Tour and National Championship races. He seems to focus more on sprint racing, but longer distances suit him well. At American Birkebeinerrennet, Birkie, he finished 6th in the 50 km skating race. In the 15 km classic race at the US Nationals, he was the 29th-best skier.

The Norwegian athletes on the team are Thomas Gifstad and Patrick Fossum Kristoffersen, and they both are established long-distance skiers. The former has actively raced in Ski Classics since 2016 and has several top-40 results. His greatest day took place on the first weekend of March 2018 when he reached Mora as the 10th fastest skier at Vasaloppet. That year, he was also 21st at Birkebeinerrennet. This September, he showed that he is ready for the upcoming season by finishing 4th in the 90 km rollerski race in Sweden, Klarälvsloppet.

Fossum Kristoffersen has also been part of the Ski Classics portfolio since 2016, but mainly through his involvement in Birken. Last winter, he completed every race, except Tartu Maraton, on the Pro Tour, and his best days happened on Swedish soil as he finished 28th at Årefjällsloppet and 29th at Vasaloppet. At Ylläs-Levi, he was 30th, and at Jizerská50, he became the 32nd best skier.

The Czech skier on the team is Tereza Hujerová, who took 23rd place in the Champion competition last season. She was a regular top 30 skier, but Årefjällsloppet’s 18th place was her best result. Engadin La Diagonela, Jizerská50, and Tartu Maraton were also good races for her as she finished 22nd, 20th, and 21st, respectively.

The three remaining skiers are Italian. Dietmar Nöckler finished 14th at Birkebeinerrennet last winter, and in the three other Pro Tour races, he was in and out of the top 30. He also raced at World Cup in Holmenkollen, Norway, where he finished 15th in the 50 km classic race. Chiara Caminada can be a top 30 skier in the women’s competition, but it does not happen every time. Rebecca Bergagnin is a young traditional cross-country skier, and a newcomer to the Pro Tour races this season.

This team is very international and has great potential. However, many of the team members are not solely focusing on Ski Classics, which naturally hurts the team’s chances of scoring points. We will most likely see some of these skiers very high up in the result lists in certain Pro Tour stages.
