Worldloppet Bans Participation Of Russian and Belarussian Skiers

by PROXCSKIING • 20.06.2022
The Worldloppet circuit, including Vasaloppet, will not allow participants from Russia or Belarus for their races. The organization decided at this weekend’s general meeting in Mora, Sweden.

Worldloppet is a circuit of twenty long-distance skiing races, and last weekend had their general meeting in Mora, Sweden. In a press release, the organization announced their decision that no Russian or Belarussian participants may start in Worldloppet events until “the situation has changed drastically.”

“The current Russian regime and the ongoing illegal Russian military aggression against Ukraine are unacceptable for us as an organization with democratic values!” says Juha Viljamaa, Worldloppet President, in the press release.

The ban also means that the Russian long-distance race Demino Skimarathon will be suspended as a member of the Worldloppet until the situation has changed drastically.
