300km on roller skis for the Swedish National Team
The men’s cross-country skiers from the Swedish National Team and Team Bauhaus will gather this weekend for the first training camp of the season. On Sunday, they will start a long journey from Falun to Södertälje. The 300km route will be completed in four days, all on roller skis.
“We have chosen a slightly different start to this year’s camp season. We combine the trip to Södertälje with four days of good training and getting the team together for the coming season,” says Lars Ljung, National Team Coach, in a press release from the Swedish Ski Association.
According to the release, two vehicles will follow the men and are equipped with extra poles, spare roller skis, pole tips, and sports drinks.
“There is an element of adventure when you set up a camp in this way. Many roads are completely new to us, so challenges can appear along the way, but that is also what I believe will contribute positively to the team’s cohesion. We do this together,” says Lars Ljung.
Some stops are planned along the route, and one is to visit Edvin Anger’s farm in Hedemora.
“We will sleep the first night at the home of the Anger family. But then we will also go through various towns along the way, hoping for cheers from everyone we pass. The skiers will appreciate that.”
“If everything goes according to plan, we will be in Södertälje on Wednesday and can recover for the competition ‘Scaniamilen’ on Thursday, concludes Lars Ljung.
The journey from Falun to Södertälje will mark the commencement of the national team camps during the summer and autumn seasons. For the male athletes, this will entail rigorous training sessions in various locations, including Åre, Torsby, Livigno, Meråker, Falun, and Vålådalen.
