Cross-Country Skier Tests Positive for Doping at the Beijing Olympics
Valentyna Kaminska tested positive for mesterolone (anabolic steroid), methylhexanamine (stimulant) and heptaminol, the laboratory accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency, the International Testing Agency (ITA), reported on Tuesday.
Until now, there had not been any positive doping tests in cross-country skiing at the Beijing Olympics. “Valentyna Kamiska has been informed of the case and has been provisionally suspended until the case is resolved,” the ITA said in a statement on Tueday.
Kaminska is now suspended from participating in any activity and events during the Olympics. She has the right to challenge her provisional suspension before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and to request the analysis of the B sample.
So far, Kaminska has not delivered any outstanding performances: She was 79th in the individual classic, 70th in the free sprint and 18th in the women’s relay.
