Sweden’s cross-country skiing stars Frida Karlsson and William Poromaa have ended their romantic relationship, prioritizing their skiing careers over love. The split was confirmed by Karlsson, who emphasized that they remain good friends.

“We have put an end to the relationship. But we are still very good friends,” says Frida Karlsson to Expressen.

During the recent World Championships in Planica, Karlsson (23) won an impressive four medals, while Poromaa (22) secured a bronze medal in the 50km race. The couple had been together since before high school, and even though they lived in different places, they maintained contact through the phone.

“She lived in Sollefteå and I in Fränsta, so we often texted each other on the mobile. But when I moved to Sollefteå, we stayed together,” says William Poromaa.

Eventually, they bought a house in Sollefteå, but their careers led them to live in separate locations. Karlsson moved to Östersund for training, while Poromaa settled in Sundsvall, close to his coach Lars Ljung.

In an interview with Expressen, Karlsson explained that although their decision may be hard for others to understand, their skiing careers were their top priority.

“We have to do what we know is best for us,” Frida Karlsson said and continued:

“‘Wille’ thinks the best thing for him is to be in Sundsvall, where he has his coach Larst Ljung nearby. At the same time, I feel I have the best conditions in Östersund and Sollefteå,” concludes Karlsson.
