They have been married for ten years, but now the traditional cross-country star Krista Pärmäkoski, 33, and her husband Tommi Pärmäkoski, 40, are divorcing.

The divorce comes at the same time as the Finnish traditional cross-country skier Krista Pärmäkoski decided to commit to one more season in hopes of winning a World Championships gold medal in Trondheim in 2025.

The couple announced their separation on Sunday evening on Instagram. They got married in 2014, and Krista’s name before the wedding was Krista Lähteenmäki.

“After amazing and sometimes eventful years together, we have decided to move separate ways. The past years held all kinds of adventures, and we are grateful for these years that we were able to experience and do together. Even though we have decided to file for divorce and move to different addresses, there is still an understanding and appreciation for each other, and we will move on as friends. This has been a long process, and we will not be commenting on it any more publicly – Krista & Tommi,” they wrote on Instagram.

The family has always been a true sports family. Besides Krista being perhaps Finland’s best female traditional cross-country skier, her husband Tommi is a sports trainer and has, among other things, been the physical trainer for four-time F1 champion Sebastian Vettel from 2008 to 2011, writes Aftonbladet.

Tommi Pärmäkoski has worked with the hockey teams Pelicans and Tappara in the top league in Finland and is currently working for the Finnish Olympic Committee.

Krista Pärmäkoski is now one of the longest-standing competitors in the World Cup. She made a mark on home ground in Lahti last winter. At home, she has a collection of twelve Olympic and World Championship medals. But the gold is missing, and she stated when Therese Johaug retired that she now has a chance to finally win it. This is also one of the reasons she chose to continue for another season.
