On the women’s side, France is sending a young and fresh team to Beijing: Only Delphine Claudel, 25, has prior Olympic experience.
On the men’s side, the French team is deeper and more experienced. Seven of the eight men have been to the Olympics before. 35-year-old Maurice Manificat is headed to his fourth Olympics, while 23-year-old Hugo Lapalus is the only Olympic rookie on the team.
However, for the first time since 2006, Jean-Marc Gaillard is not a part of the French Olympic team. After a slow start to the World Cup season, the 41-year-old was not picked for Tour de Ski. Gaillard had hoped to qualify at the World Cup in Les Rousses, France, last weekend, or at the World Cup in Planca on January 21 to 23. But the Omicron wave of the corona virus changed everything. Both World Cups were cancelled.
