Italy’s Team to The 2022 Olympics
Twelve cross-country skiers, six women and six men, are named to Italy’s team to the 2022 Olympics.
Italy had the opportunity to field seven women at the Beijing Winter Games, but chose not to fill their quota.
Balance of veterans and rookies
Of the twelve Italian racers who are headed to Beijing, nearly half are rookies to the Olympics.
Among the women, 26-year-old Caterina Ganz, 23-year-old Cristina Pittin and 21-year-old Martina Di Centa are headed to their first Olympics. On the men’s team, 25-year-old Paolo Ventura and 21-year-old Davide Graz are rookies to the Beijing Winter Games.
At the same time, three of the racers in the Italian squad are headed to their third Olympics: Greta Laurent, Federico Pellegrino and Francesco De Fabiani all competed both at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and the 2018 Olympics in South Korea. Pellegrino earned the silver medal in the sprint at the 2018 Olympics.
