Norway Dominated the Men’s Skate Race in Davos

by Ingeborg Scheve • 12.12.2021
Norway snags first and second place in the 15-kilometer skate race in Davos, as well as five of the top six places.

Sergey Ustiugov was the only one who was able to prevent the Norwegians from making a clean sweep of the podium at the 15-kilometer skate race in Davos on Sunday. The bearded Russian snagged the last spot on the podium, behind two Norwegians.

Norway’s Simen Hegstad Krüger left no doubt: After winning his second straight 15-kilometer skate race in the World Cup, he will be hard to bypass when selecting the team to the 2022 Olympics in February.

Last weekend, Hegstad Krüger won the 15-kilometer skate race at the World Cup in Lillehammer. Today, he won the same event at the World Cup in Davos, Switzerland. This time at nearly 1600 meters elevation.

Behind Hegstad Krüger, there was a 23-second gap down to Johannes Høsflot Klæbo in second place. Russia’s Sergey Ustiugov snagged the last spot on the podium, another four seconds behind.

Additionally, Norway takes the following three places: Harald Østberg Amundsen was fourth, Hans Christer Holund was fifth and Sjur Røthe was sixth. Holund has already earned a spot on the Olympic team. Østberg Amundsen has strengthened his bid for a ticket to China, and Røthe is looking stronger than ever this season.
