The cross-country skiing World Cup season 2024/2025 starts this week in Ruka, Finland. The Norwegian national team is now named.

Ruka, Finland, is the place for this year’s cross-country skiing World Cup premiere. The event starts on Friday, November 29, with a 10km interval start race in classic technique. On Saturday, November 30, a sprint race in classic style awaits. And on Sunday, December 1, the World Cup premiere weekend ends with a 20km mass start race in freestyle technique.

In a press release, the Norwegian Ski Association has named their cross-country ski team for the upcoming World Cup premiere in Ruka. Norway will start with 15 skiers on Friday for the 10km classic, 14 athletes on Saturday for the sprint also in classic technique, and 15 athletes on Sunday for the 20km mass start in freestyle technique.

“We have a very strong squad in Ruka and are looking forward to getting started with the World Cup season. There were many Norwegian cross-country skiers who went incredibly fast on Beitostølen at the weekend, and the fight ahead to represent Norway internationally is going to be tough,” says national team manager Ulf Morten Aune in the press release.

One cross-country skier missing is Anne Kjersti Kalvå, who chose to skip the stage in Finland:

“The body did not respond as desired during the season premiere at Beitostølen. She will now prioritize training at home and return to competition when she is ready for this,” says national team doctor Ove Feragen.
