Oberhof, Germany, is the place for the next stage of this year’s cross-country skiing World Cup. As a new World Cup organizer, Oberhof World Cup starts on Friday, January 19, with a sprint race in classic technique, followed by a 20km mass start race in classic technique on Saturday, January 20, and a 4×7.5km relay race in classic/freestyle techniques on Sunday, January 21, 2024.

In a press release, the Norwegian Ski Association has named their cross-country ski team for the upcoming World Cup in Oberhof. 

According to the press release, Norway will have seven women and eight men at the start of the classic sprint on Friday:

“After good skiing both in Otepää and at Lygna, Maria Hartz Melling and Ane Appelkvist Stenseth join the squad. In addition, it is very gratifying to have Tiril Udnes Weng on ski races again, who, after illness, has taken time to recover and is making his season debut in the World Cup. Silje Theodorsen also joins the World Cup team with leadership in the Scandinavian Cup, thereby increasing our quota from six to seven skiers on the women’s side. Mattis Stenshagen has had strong races in the Scan Cup and is now in the quota place for men. It is also pleasing that Johannes Høsflot Klæbo is again ready for the start after illness towards the Tour de Ski,” says general manager Per Elias Kalfoss. 

On Saturday, Norway will be represented by seven women and eight men again:

“On the women’s side, we field a strong trio from the Equinor recruitment team for the Norwegian Ski Association. With Kristin Austgulen Fosnæs, Margrethe Bergane and Hedda Østberg Amundsen. In addition, we have Heidi Weng, Mathilde Myrvold, Tiril Udnes Weng, and Silje Theodorsen. Lotta Udnes Weng, Astrid Øyre Slind, and Anne Kjersti Kalvå have not been considered for the squad due to illness,” says Kalfoss.  

“Among the men, as usual, many skiers are fighting for the eight places. After illness before the Tour de Ski, Simen Hegstad Krüger is now ready to start together with Didrik Tønseth and Johannes Høsflot Klæbo. In addition, Mattis Stenshagen enters with a quota place from the Scandinavian Cup,” concludes Kalfoss.
