Remi Lindholm “opened the throttle” in Falun
On Sunday, Remi Lindholm finished 11th as the best Finn in the men’s 20km World Cup competition in Falun, Sweden.
Lindholm trailed Norwegian winner Johannes Høsflot Klæbo by nine seconds in the 20km mass start race in freestyle skiing.
Norwegians took a triple victory, with Gjøran Tefre finishing second and Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget third. Finland’s Iivo Niskanen did not finish the race.
“Something inexplicable happened after the test,” Niskanen explained about the ski issue in an interview with V Sport and added:
“A day like this, there was no determination to ski to the finish line.”

The competition was the final stage of the World Cup this season. Lindholm reached his career-best finish in the World Cup, placing tenth in the freestyle 10-kilometer race in Jällivaara in December. In Falun, Lindholm was overtaken in the final sprint by Norway’s Iver Tildheim Andersen, who secured the tenth spot. Eighth place was just 0.8 seconds away for the Finn.
“It was quite chaotic. I had to stay alert all the time so I didn’t lose my position,” Lindholm told Maastohiihto.com.
The Finn performed solidly in the leading group.
“Suddenly, I was near the front. I had to suffer, but everyone else suffered, too. Then it was just full throttle.”
Among other Finns, Perttu Hyvärinen finished 25th, Arsi Ruuskanen 42nd, Lauri Lepistö 50th, and Lauri Vuorinen 71st.
