In a stunning development for Norwegian cross-country skiing, Kristine Stavås Skistad has announced her return to the national team and unveiled her strategic blueprint for the upcoming season.

Skistad’s decision to rejoin the national squad surprised many when it was revealed on Friday morning. Despite her flourishing individual career, the sprint sensation is eager to align herself once again with the Norwegian national setup.

Maintaining a steadfast commitment to her existing training regimen, Skistad assures that her integration into the national team structure won’t need any substantial alterations. Expressing confidence in her partnership with personal coach Lage Sofienlund, she affirms to NRK that their established routine, centered at Konnerud, will remain unchanged.

From a competitive standpoint, Skistad emphasizes continuity, stressing that her approach will mirror previous years, albeit with added contributions on the marketing front to bolster Norway’s prospects for the upcoming season.

Skistad’s illustrious achievements underscore her significance within the sport. This past winter, she clinched five World Cup victories in sprint races, making her the sole Norwegian woman to triumph in a World Cup race this season.

Describing the negotiation process as transparent and fulfilling, Skistad reveals that the offer extended to her was nothing short of a dream. After deliberating with Sofienlund, she accepted the offer based on its alignment with her aspirations.

Transitioning back into the national team fold, Skistad stresses the seamlessness of her routine, affirming her unwavering presence at Konnerud. Echoing her sentiments, Sofienlund underscores the mutually beneficial nature of their collaboration, emphasizing their ability to augment the national team’s efforts without compromising their established methods.

Beyond personal accolades, Skistad underscores the significance of contributing to the collective success of the national team. Believing that her involvement enhances Norway’s competitive edge, she heralds the partnership as a win-win scenario.

The Norwegian Ski Association has enthusiastically greeted Skistad’s return, hailing it as a pivotal moment for Norwegian cross-country skiing. Cathrine Instebø, general manager for cross-country skiing, lauds the transparent dialogue that facilitated Skistad’s reintroduction and expresses eagerness for the forthcoming World Ski Championships in Trondheim.

Skistad’s decision to rejoin the national team follows Johannes Høsflot Klæbo’s recent announcement of his return. With both stars committing well ahead of the 2025 World Championships, Norway finds itself in a formidable position as it prepares for the prestigious event on home soil.
