Smashed the entire World Cup stars: “I take the opportunities I get”

He crushed Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, the French sprint star Richard Jouve, and the rest of the World Cup starts in the 20-kilometer race in Granåsen on Friday. But the young athlete is not thinking about the World Championships.

On Friday evening, he smashed the entire world stars with a perfectly calculated and executed race: When the 24-year-old from Trøsken really stepped up, no one could keep up: Neither Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, France’s sprint star Richard Jouve, Sweden’s rising star Edvin Anger, nor World Cup winner Harald Østberg Amundsen.

“It’s really cool to take the victory here on the World Championships course. It’s a really strong field at the start line, and everyone who wants to race in the World Championships here this winter is at the start. I’ll take that with me into my fall training,” says Amund Korsæth to Langrenn.com.

But for Korsæth, the young athlete who won the overall Roller Ski World Cup in 2022, it’s not the World Championships in Trondheim that’s at the forefront of his mind.

“There are a lot of people who want those spots. It’s okay to dream, and it’s a dream goal,” says the regional team skier from Team Elon Oslofjord.

Setting the Bar High

For Korsæth, there are other goals he’s working towards now.

“For me, it’s primarily about making a big improvement from what I did last year. Then we’ll see how far it takes me. I finished 11th in the World Cup when the test World Championships were held here in December. So, the realistic ambition is to get on the World Cup podium this winter,” says Korsæth.

Are there any specific events or distances you have set your sights on?

“I take the opportunities I get, and then I’ll race fast.”
