Sweden’s Team For The Junior World Championships

by Leandro Lutz • 11.01.2023
The Junior World Ski Championships start at the end of January. The Swedish Team is presented for the event in Whistler, Canada, from January 28 to February 4.

In a press release, the Swedish Ski Association named their cross-country ski team for the Junior World Championships. Sweden will start with ten athletes. On the women’s side, Sweden will begin with five skiers. Already on the men’s side, also five athletes will start for the Scandinavian country.

“There were great and important competitions in Lycksele for our Swedish juniors,” says Andreas Domeij, coach of Team Svenska Spel Junior national team, in the press release, and continues:

“There are some places to distribute, so many will have the opportunity to measure themselves internationally in the future, but the first focus is our Junior World Championships team.”

“We have many high-class skiers who already have international experience from major championships. We are going with a team where many know each other from before. Still, a couple of new interesting names will have the opportunity to make their international championships debut during the Junior World Championships,” says Domeij.

The Swedish national team will travel to Canada on Thursday next week to prepare for the nine days of championships at the Whistler Olympic Park, the venue that hosted the 2010 Olympic ski events.

“The Junior and U23 World Championships are the big goals of the season for the younger skiers, and we want to give them optimal conditions to prepare for a good championship,” concludes Andreas Domeij.

After the canceled competitions in Rovaniemi, Finland, the Scandinavian Cup moved to Falun, Sweden, from January 13 to 15, and the Swedish U23 team is expected to be presented on Monday, January 16.
