The cross-country skiing World Cup season 2024/2025 starts this week in Ruka, Finland. The Swedish national team is now named.

Ruka, Finland, is the place for this year’s cross-country skiing World Cup premiere. The event starts on Friday, November 29, with a 10km interval start race in classic technique. On Saturday, November 30, a sprint race in classic style awaits. And on Sunday, December 1, the World Cup premiere weekend ends with a 20km mass start race in freestyle technique.

In a press release, the Swedish Ski Association has named their cross-country ski team for the upcoming World Cup premiere in Ruka. Sweden will start with 21 skiers (9 women and 12 men), as Sweden can field six skiers in each race for each gender.

“Several of our most established (skiers) showed high capacity at the premiere in Bruksvallarna. But we also got to see skiers with less international experience who seem to have made great strides during the dryland training,” says the Swedish national team manager Anders Byström, and adds:

“The entire A national team is there, but we also get to see skiers like Måns Skoglund, Johan Ekberg, and Märta Rosenberg after their fine performances in Bruksvallarna.”

William Poromaa is back from a cold, and Calle Halfvarsson has recovered from the back problem from the weekend.

“William Poromaa and Calle Halfvarsson have had a few bumps on the road to Ruka, but we believe and hope that they will be fully ready this weekend,” concludes Anders Byström.
