Tour de Ski is the fourth stage of the cross-country skiing World Cup season 2024/2025. The event starts in Toblach, Italy, on Saturday, December 28, with sprint races in freestyle technique. On Sunday, December 29, it’s time for the 15km mass start races in classic technique.

After the events in Toblach, the Tour de Ski heads to Val Di Fiemme, also in Italy, for the final events.

On Friday, January 3, there are sprint races in classic technique, followed by the 20km skiathlon races on Saturday, January 4, and on Sunday, December 5, the Tour de Ski ends with the Final Climb, the 10km mass start race in freestyle technique up to the Alpe Cermis.

In a press release, the Swedish Ski Association has named their cross-country ski team for the upcoming Tour de Ski.

“The competitions are decided this year only in Italy, in Toblach and Val di Fiemme. In terms of travel, it is convenient for us, and we are also used to both accommodation and arenas in both locations. One of the most spectacular races this season goes back and forth between Toblach and Lago di Landro in fantastic surroundings and will be magical both for the skiers and the TV viewers,” says Swedish national team manager Anders Byström in the press release adding:

“Tour de Ski will, as usual, be a big event during the intervening days and New Year’s weekend. We expect that large parts of the Swedish people follow the competitions, and we aim to achieve top results both in the individual competitions but of course also in the total which ends with the climb in Alpe Cermis.”

According to the press release, the Swedish selection for the Tour de Ski has, in addition to the starting quota of six women and men, also personal free places for the top 20 in the World Cup Sprint Cup, as well as for the leaders in the overall World Cup and the Scandinavian Cup.

In the squad there are several skier who have their own free places because they are among the top 20 in the World Cup Sprint Cup. We are very pleased to see Ebba Andersson and Linn Svahn in the World Cup again. Also back is Calle Halfvarsson, who received treatment for his back problems and should now be fully recovered,” says Anders Byström.

In the other hand, Frida Karlsson will miss Tour de Ski this season.

“Frida Karlsson is withdrawing from this year’s Tour de Ski due to the injury problem she suffered before the start of the season. Together with the medical team and coach, she has decided not to burden herself with as many competitions in a short time as a tour entails,” says Anders Byström.
